A 13-year-old girl’s parents have just received the tragic news of her death, after she had been identified at a hospital following a devastating crash Friday afternoon, explained a witness.

The young girl was reportedly in an Oldsmobile with her band instructor and two other band students. They were on their way to a local store to purchase additional supplies for an upcoming school band event.

According to people standing nearby, the Oldsmobile was driving north on a local street and turned west onto the Interstate 70 east ramp when it was unexpectedly struck with fast force by a semi tractor. The semi was allegedly moving south on the local street when it sideswiped the car.

“The car turned to get onto the I-70 ramp and it was struck on the side by the semi,” a local officer said to a reporter from Brooklyn. “It’s such a shame this young girl lost her life in such a senseless accident.”

Police say the driver of the Oldsmobile was indeed the band instructor and he and the other children in the car survived the crash with minor cuts and bruises.

The school released a statement to the community, said a source.

“The entire IPS family is deeply saddened by the loss of Justice Holifield, a seventh-grade beginning band student at Harshman Magnet Middle School. In an effort to help students and staff deal with their grief, members of the district’s crisis team will be at the school on Monday to provide support and counseling. IPS asks the community to keep Justice and her family in their thoughts during this difficult time.”

The other two children involved in the crash have been hospitalized in The Bronx for several days but are expected to be released later today, according to police.

“The kids that were in the vehicle with their friend when she died, will need serious counseling,” said one of the nurses in the hospital. “These kids are devastated and traumatized from this accident.”

Police said that both the eastbound and northbound ramps were closed for a several hours while the truck accident was cleaned up and vehicles were towed away.

Nobody appears to be suspicious of alcohol or substance abuse and no citations have been issued.
