It was a moment of inattention that cost three people their lives. Reaching for his cell phone on the dash board, a trucker lost track of where he was and rolled into a whole line of traffic, knocking cars out of the way like bowling balls.

The 51-year old trucker who was involved in an awful accident that killed three and left many others injured two years ago, was released from jail after serving 371 days of his sentence for involuntary manslaughter. The man had served a one year sentence; a sentence in part determined in consultation with the victims of the crash, explained a New York Trucking Accident Lawyer.

The facts of the case are that the trucker was momentarily distracted by reaching for his cell phone and while doing that, took his eyes off the road. The truck kept going and plowed into a line of vehicles sitting on the highway. The resulting chain reaction crash killed three and injured at least 14 others. The charges in this case were not filed until nine months after the crash, as it took that long to sort out the relevant details.

No one leaves home to go to work expecting they will never return home. However, that is just what happened in this fatal fiery wreck, the result of a chain of unfortunate errors.

A 46-year old man was hit and killed while he was trying to move his car out of traffic. It had given up the ghost on him and he knew it should not be left in the middle of the bridge in case someone else hit his disabled vehicle.

As the man was attempting to move his car, a trucker in another lane, spotting what was going on, attempted to slip by the car by swerving around it. The trucker missed the car alright, but struck the man moving it. As a result of the impact, the big rig hit the median and burst into a red hot inferno, reported a New York Truck Accident Lawyer.

In some cases, the truth is stranger than fiction and this case has all of those elements; a bit of hard, cold truth and an old world element of what may be considered to be fiction, but, is also truth.

A 60-year old Amish woman who survived a very ugly tractor trailer crash that killed three and left more than a dozen others badly injured, has declined to sue the trucker who caused the accident, indicated a New York Truck Accident Lawyer. That is the Amish way; not to take money from others when a situation is considered to be God’s will. And, according to God’s will, she would not participate in suing the man who killed her father.

The truck that hit them was fully loaded with scrap metal – 13 tons of it. The trucker had been driving for more than 86 hours over an 8-day period and was in violation of the hours of service regulations. He had been cited 41 times for fraudulently altering logbooks.

The weather took a turn for the worse in this case and when it did, the consequences were not pretty.

Freezing mist was falling on the highway and those traveling it were hard-pressed to get any traction. They even had a hard time going the designated speed limit, as the road conditions were so treacherous. Further back down the highway, five people were headed north in a Pontiac G5. On another road, up ahead of the Pontiac, was an empty logging truck and trailer just pulling out onto the highway and about to start heading south.

The Pontiac had no idea the truck was there, as they were climbing a hill. When they hit the top of the crest and realized the truck was right in front of them, they tried to slow their forward momentum down. The ice was too bad and the wheels spun out of control, sending the vehicle directly into the path of the logging truck.

No one is sure what happened yet. But there is likely to be an investigation into what caused a coal truck to hit a ditch and roll over, killing the lone occupant, a 32-year old volunteer firefighter with 16-years experience and a history of working in the trucking industry.

A 77-year-old man died last week in a motor vehicle accident involving his van and a cattle-hauling semi. Family members are still shocked.

The deceased’s sister says, “He was always very cautious. That’s what we can’t understand. He was always very cautious when he was driving or whatever he was doing.”

The 77-year-old grew up in the Wingham-area near Elm Creek. Later, in 2005, he moved to Portage la Prairie where he lived with his brother. He lived there with him until just last year when the brother died.

This fatality that took place in 2007 has recently been dealt with in court, where some of the charges involved were dismissed. However, the trucker driving the coal rig at the time of the accident is still facing other serious charges.

A 40-year old coal trucking company owner was initially charged with permitting homicide by vehicle, murder by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 36-year old woman. These are the charges that have been dismissed, but there are still six summary charges remaining.

The woman was attempting to make a turn onto the highway when the driver of a coal truck, a 39-year old man rear ended her car, killing her on impact and seriously injuring her son. The driver was working for the coal trucking company owner charged in this debacle, explained the New York Trucking Accident Lawyer.

Police in Winnipeg continue to investigate an early morning incident that occurred on April 3, a New York Truck Accident Lawyer has found. The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. as a fire truck from Number 6 fire station responded to a call. As one vehicle pulled off to the side of the city street to allow the fire truck to pass, the fire truck driver noticed something in the road ahead and tried to stop, although unsuccessfully. When firefighters exited the truck to determine what “bump in the road” they had just ran over, they discovered the fire truck had just ran over a man who was lying in the middle of the road.

The 47-year old man was immediately transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead a few minutes later as a result of his injuries. Although the investigation is ongoing, authorities have told a NYC Truck Accident Lawyer they are still unsure as to why the man was lying in the middle of the roadway. They are awaiting for the autopsy to be completed and are hoping that will provide the answers they need, as there are many possible causes that he could have been lying in the road, including a medical emergency, intoxication, or could have simply fell as he crossed the street. Authorities still have many unanswered questions. The only thing they do know is that the man was still alive when the fire truck ran over him.

Although one neighbor who happened to be awake early that morning had reported a group of kids that scattered at some point, the primary witnesses to this accident are the firefighters and the driver of the vehicle they had just passed. This lack of available information is further hampering the investigation.
